Fun to drive and sure to bring a smile on your face, even if the pre - select gearbox does take a bit of getting used to! Another lovely touch is the original toolkit, is still neatly tucked away in a sliding drawer in the car, with the wheel brace, hand pump etc still mounted in the boot, just as she would've left the factory. A well presented car in black with a lovely interior which I am told was £1300!. The exterior is in good condition, with some blemishes typical for a 72 year old car. The paintwork remains mostly bright and shiny, though a few areas are slightly dull, yet still intact and well preserved. The chrome is all good, and the steel wheels and tyres are also in good condition. Structurally, the car is sound, with no notable concerns under the bonnet, in the boot, or across the underside. Please keep in mind that she’s 72 years old and shouldn't be compared to a modern car. As with any classic car, there will always be minor faults, areas that may need attention, and room for improvement. Daimler had introduced the Conquest as a new model in 1953, replacing the Consort which in turn had been developed from the DB18. The, chassis and body were based on the Lanchester Leda, but the Conquest had a new short-stroke six cylinder 2½ litre engine with 75bhp. The name was reputedly chosen since the basic factory price was £1066. Several versions of the model were made and the Conquest was Daimler’s best-seller until 1958.
